Dreamy West Country Cottages in an Idillyc Setting

The West Country is actually well over two hundred miles across, if you take a look at any map. It stretches from the counties of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Dorset in the far east, to Cornwall in the west. But to be honest, many people believe that only Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are the true definition of the West Country, and indeed, this is where West Country cottages tend to be the most sought-after.

Being a large peninsula, the West Country is surrounded by its two separate coastlines: to the north you have the Bristol Channel and to the south, The English Channel. It is this close proximity to the sea that draws millions of tourists to the region every year and the counties of Devon and Cornwall seem to have the most pull. West country cottages are often conveniently situated close to the shore and this will always please all members of the family.

The West Country is home to some amazing and charming small fishing towns and villages. These are especially prevalent in Devon and Cornwall and you may even find old fishermen’s cottage now converted into dream West country cottages. These properties really enable you to escape from the twenty-first century and picture what this part of the world would have been like back in early Victorian times. This is because some of these settlements have changed very little since those days.

The West country is completely geared-up to welcome the vast number of tourists that head there every year. After all, it has been doing so for such a long time now. West country cottages are far from being a new concept and this is one industry that has steadily grown to become one of the most popular accommodation choices throughout the region. Whichever county or part of the region you have your heart set on, there will be West country cottages to welcome you.

If you feel the need to really get away from it all and find an area of outstanding natural beauty and utter seclusion, why not choose West country cottages that are located within the boundaries of the national parks of the region? Both Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks offer exactly this and a real chance to recharge your batteries.
You may opt to stay in your cosy cottage with a blazing log fire burning during the winter months, or venture out to explore some of the numerous nature trails that have been established in the area.

By far the most perfect thing about West country cottages is that you have the total freedom and choice to decide how you are going to spend your time. There are hundreds of tourist attractions across the region for you to visit and even large cities if you have a craving to flash the credit cards in Plymouth, Exeter or Truro.
